Since Lori and I quit our mediocre jobs to go on this adventure, we figured the best way to book a flight was through one of those discount websites. Of course these little travel helpers are about as sketchy as a guy wearing black pantyhose on his head and lurking in a street ally. Needless to say, a month was spent searching for the cheapest flight we could find. We researched what city was cheapest to fly into, what day was best to purchase the tickets, which airline didn't charge for bags, which sketchy discount site wouldn't rip us off, etc. After numerous phone calls and frustrated heads bangs against the computer we got annoyed.
We found a flight to Dublin and said screw the price we are booking this today! Of course Lori was at work that day and lucky for me it was my day off. So I got the joy of booking our flight across the pond. Yep, this process also incited some head banging! The first flight we book and my debit card is declined! It seemed like a bit of a bad omen. I had to call the booking agency and question their motives. My money was in the bank, why didn't they want it? Was my money not good enough for them? After chastising the extremely unhelpful sketchy discount plane ticket guy, he practically said, "Lady call your bank!" So I did. Apparently my debit card has a spending limit. It's my money, why can't I spend it? So I had the limit lifted for 24 hours and bought the tickets.
AND THEN...the SDPTG (sketchy discount plane ticket guy) calls me and says, "Sorry ma'am, we can't book your flight because your layover isn't long enough and your bags won't make it before your next flight takes off." By this time, I am tearing my hair out and practically willing to sell my soul for a flight to Ireland. So after months of searching, SDPTG, declined debit cards, rerouted flights, and an extra fee to change my flight that they booked for me...we had our tickets. We fly out on May 4th at 3:30pm. Let's hope we don't miss our flight...or a volcanoe doesn't errupt...again...
